Music Videos Intro.

A Music video is a short film with music integrated over the top. Music video's are used as a way to publicise bands/singers songs and also to give more underlying meaning to a song.

The first unofficial music video was created by Edward B. Marks and Joe Stern in 1894. They enlisted George Thomas and various performers to create a music video for "The little lost child" Thomas projected a lot of still images using a magic lantern. When the song was being played they would simultaneously play the still images, this became known as the illustrated song. Music videos developed from this.

It is unclear as to when music videos had been fully developed. The time when they most came about was in the 60's. The Beatles are commonly known for having one of the first music videos, A Hard Day's Night, directed by Richard Lester (1964). It is shot in black and white and is a type of mock documentary.
